New Year's Resolutions

Over the course of the last few years, I've gotten lazy. I haven't made as many videos as I've wanted to, I've stopped working out and I've put off school work. That's going to change in 2018.

Yeah, yeah, I know that's cliche, but I'm going to strive to change those aspects of me. The crux of these resolutions is the so-called, "52
Week Video Challenge." The challenge consists of creating one video a week for one whole year. Anyone who has made videos before will tell you that is a pretty tough goal to reach, depending on the length of the videos, quality, etc. Well, to make sure I'm consistently challenged with this and not throwing together all garbage quality videos, I'm going to set some ground rules:

  1. Videos must be at least 1 minute and 30 seconds long. (This is to make sure I can't throw together something really quick and call it done for the week)
  2. Videos must contain at least six different types of shots. (Whether it be close-up, wide, medium, medium-wide, etc.)
  3. You cannot repeat a previous video's concept within four weeks of the previous video. (E.g. I can't make two videos in a row of me making food unless it differs in some significant narrative way)
  4. Videos can be shot on any device. (E.g. phone, DSLR, camcorder, etc.)

That covers all of the ground rules, and I'm hoping it will challenge me to think outside of the box while still maintaining a certain standard of quality. I'm starting the challenge on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, and the challenge will end Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018. My goal will be to have the video uploaded by the Sunday of that week. For example, since it starts on Jan. 1, the first video will be posted on Sunday, Jan. 7. All of the videos will be posted to my YouTube channel.

Now that all of that is out of the way, I want to put out a challenge to everyone reading this. If you're interested in making videos, give this challenge a shot. Flex your creative muscles, and you can edit the rules to fit your schedule and style. I hope this inspires all you to put yourself to the test and see what you can really do!
