A New Book
Since our class just finished "The Art of Social Media," it makes sense that we're starting up a new book. This one is called the "Social Media Marketing Workbook" by Jason MacDonald. So far, I've noticed that this book is significantly more detailed than "The Art of Social Media" and it goes into far more depth regarding every topic it discusses. Whereas our first book was more of a beginner's guide to social media, this new one appears to be a more intermediate level and the information scales up accordingly. There were also some sharp contrasts in information between the two books. The "Social Media Marketing Workbook" warns about social media guilt, which in the book's terms, "you can't (and shouldn't) use every network," and compared to "The Art of Social Media," where the book says multiple times that you should jump on every platform that you can, is a vastly different approach. I think this difference could be because our new book focuses more specifically on a business' consumer base and our old one was more about the general applications of social media. Both books did recommend a lot of the same aggregation sites like Feedly for everyday use, because they are good at what they do. So far, I like the new book and even though the information that the book talks about is higher level than before, it makes it really easy to follow by comparing social media to planning a party. It will be interesting to see how the two books differ overall and what kind of info this one will focus on more.
