All the Writing

Throughout my tenure as a journalism student, I've had my fair share of writing to do for my classes, for example, last year I had to write nine stories for the Northern Review, because of a practicum class. But this year is shaping up to be even more writing than that, with a history class, and three communications classes. What I've come to realize from this, is that I love writing.

In high school and even during parts of freshman year, it was extremely difficult for me to find the motivation to start writing for assignments, but when I did eventually start the assignments I would fly through them and genuinely enjoy doing it. Once the end of my writing seminar class hit, I found myself writing more and more, with my mechanics and voice improving all the time. I would even voluntarily start taking up assignments that involved a lot of writing just because I thought it would be fun, or the topic sounded interesting. This led to me actually picking up an assignment from my adviser and turning it into a full-blown research project that is still being worked on now.

Journalism actually didn't appeal to me as a major, because of the writing originally, but because of the video work found in it and what I could do with that. However after all this time, I've finally come to appreciate an aspect of journalism I never really appreciated before, or really realized I cared about. Any kind of writing is actually very relaxing now and its now the easiest task for me to focus on. It's crazy to me how much my attitude towards something changed after exposing myself to it and really sculpting it into projects I enjoy doing.

To all you readers, was there ever anything in school that you hated when you were younger, but once you were exposed to it more you actually grew to enjoy it?
