Why Does Social Media Exist?

This is the question I decided to explore for the podcast assignment we were given in Social Media Principles. I chose this question in particular, because social media was not necessarily invented just a little over two decades ago. Maybe in its current form it was, but social media has existed in different forms than the way we think about since probably the early 1970s. That's where the podcast picks up and discusses how social media existed back then and how it evolved over decades and became something used by billions of people.

I took the podcast a different route than I thought I would originally, and because of that, it is a video podcast that I uploaded to YouTube. I figured the visual medium would be better suited to explaining my points and statistics, because I could pull up graphs and display my sources right on screen, so it would be easier for someone to find the information I used.
